The session will include the opportunity for parents to talk with two experienced parents who have successfully navigated the special education system with their own children and have provided support to other parents in doing the same. Description/Content: Life is challenging and full of stressors on a daily basis. These stresses can be especially increased for parents of children with disabilities. In this session, we will discuss the many sources of stress in our daily lives and examine the consequences of those sources of stress. Strategies to manage stress will be discussed with emphasis on practical application to daily living. Opportunities will be provided for selfevaluation, group reflection on the special stressors involved in parenting a child with a disability, and for developing a personal stress management plan. The target audience for both sessions includes: • Parents and guardians of children with disabilities • Surrogate Parents • Support Providers for families with children with disabilities • Educators who want to increase awareness of how to support families with children with disabilities Pre-registration is required for these sessions.
